Throughout the interview process, how can a candidate impress you?
A prepared candidate stands out. If s/he can concisely describe themselves, their experiences and provide examples, it shows me they have past work experience and can show how it relates to the open position. I look for someone who is enthusiastic, has done their research and can communicate well.

What do you look for in a resume? Do you need a cover letter?
Resumes need to be error free. Resumes should focus on past experience, articulating outcomes and quantifiable results. For those who have been in the workforce for less than 5 years, the resume should not be longer than one page.
 
You do need a cover letter. If you are applying online and the application has a place to include a cover letter, you need to include a customized cover letter for the role.
 
If you are sending an email to a referral or someone in your network, you need a cover letter. Do not attach a cover letter and resume, only attach the resume and include the cover letter content in the body of an email.

What is the best way a candidate can prepare for an interview?
Research! Visit the company website and understand their values, current happenings and more about the business. Research the person who is interviewing you-see how long they have been at the company. Come to the interview with 3-5 good questions to ask me.

What is the biggest mistake a candidate can make?
If you appear uninterested and not excited or eager, I will assume you don’t want the job. If you aren’t prepared, you will not be asked back.

What is your best advice for the job search? 
Know what type of role you are looking for and be able to articulate your experiences and your strengths. Don’t worry if you are not a 100% match for the job, you often underestimate yourself. If you are confident and meet the majority of the qualifications, have confidence and go for it.
