Have you ever been at the point in a job interview where the interviewer says to you, “Do you have any questions for me?”
Most interviews will end with a chance for you to ask a few questions. If you fail to ask anything, this can be interpreted as disinterest or a lack of preparation, so it is important to have a few questions ready. Some of your prepared questions may have already been answered during the interview, so always prepare more questions than you plan on asking.
Now that you have the opportunity to ask questions, it is a good way to find out more about the role and the company, and whether you decide the job is for you or not. Another good reason to ask the right questions is to leave your interviewer with a positive lasting impression. This can truly help you stand out from the crowd.
You will likely have the opportunity to ask 3-4 questions at the most. Here are some important questions to ask in 2022:
- What are the most important skills or characteristics needed to succeed in this position?
- What are the biggest challenges that someone in this role would face?
- What does a career path look like for this type of position?
- What are the next steps in the interview process?
It’s also good to know if this is a new position, or a replacement for someone who left, or better yet, got promoted.
Another good question to ask your interviewer because everyone likes to talk about themselves, “What do you like most about working here?“
Note: don’t ask questions if you can find the answer online. This could make it look like you did not prepare for the interview.
End your interview on a high note showing you are confident, prepared and the best candidate for the job or internship.
