Who: George graduated from Indiana University in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in recreation and a minor in human resource management.
Challenge: Due to the pandemic, George’s hopes of entering the hospitality industry were crushed. George had an internship at a luxury hotel chain and while he was performing well, they could not offer him a job upon his graduation.
Next Steps: George decided to pivot and take his work and leadership experience from college, along with his human resource minor, and focus his search on a human resources role. George was very active on campus and learned many transferable skills.
We coached George in the following:
- Pivoted George’s resume to show his human resources skills learned and utilized in his work on campus. When looking at positions of interest, we matched George’s strengths and stories to what the job description required. We ensured the resume included key industry terms and technologies George was already experienced in to show the employee he could ramp up quickly.
- Educated George on alternative job search websites and organizations he could use to look for specifically HR positions. He learned about associations in the industry where he could attend free webinars to learn what HR professionals are confronted with today.
- Provided George with a networking database to track the jobs he is applying for and the contacts he has reached out to. The alumni strategy also worked well for George with many IU alumni in Chicago.
Outcome: George landed a position as a Talent Acquisition Associate at a prominent consulting firm in the Chicagoland area. He landed this position in less than 30 days because of his persistence, outgoing personality, and positive attitude.
Testimonial from George: Jodi made the job search process completely stress free and helps you every step of the way! Jodi’s extensive experience working in recruiting and personable nature makes her the perfect resource for someone hunting for a new job.
