Who: Alec
Challenge: Alec graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He was struggling to figure out what he wanted to do since he graduated in May 2022. He ultimately wanted to stay near campus for a year after graduation to stay close to friends before moving back to NY where he was from.
Next Steps: Jim worked with Alec to help him develop a strategic plan that focused on receiving an offer by his personal mission date of July 1, 2022
We coached Alec on the following:
- Articulate Alec’s strengths and the stories he could use to craft his 30-second commercial/elevator pitch.
- He decided sales was the best place to begin based on his internships, experience, and interests.
- He set up informational interviews to determine what type of sales was the best place for him to start.
- We focused on a networking plan to augment his application online via LinkedIn and other job career sites.
- We role-played how to properly network and the questions you should ask during a networking conversation.
- He ended up having multiple conversations each week with contacts which helped him build his confidence.
- Developed a networking database to keep track of his contacts and the jobs applied all in one place.
- We set up weekly success metrics to help him keep on track.
- Helped Alec prepare an Interview template he could utilize in all interviews moving forward.
- Showed Alec how to reach out to a recruiter and alumni on LinkedIn to gain another way into an organization.
Outcome: Alec recently received multiple job offers in the Miami area. He decided to accept a sales job for a Fortune 500 company that has an excellent training program. The best part was he received the offer by June 30th right before his personal deadline.
