Who: Lucy is a senior at Indiana University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information with a minor in Entrepreneurship.
Challenge: Lucy decided to start applying to a data analyst position and didn’t know where to get started. She wanted a strategy plan to apply, network, and interview to land a job by winter break.
Next Steps: Jim worked with Lucy on multiple sessions to help her prepare for her data analyst role.
We coached Lucy on the following:
- Updated/Revised Lucy’s resume to better articulate her tenure work experience including her skills and strengths
- Articulate Lucy’s strengths and the stories behind each one so she could use it in an interview
- Networking- built a networking template Lucy could use for all future networking conversations. The goal was to have a plan for each conversation
- Reviewed interview questions and discussed how to answer behavioral based interviewing questions
- After Lucy answered the potential interview questions, we reviewed each one in detail
- Help create an interview template she could prepare on all interviews moving forward
- Practiced *interview questions and responses* to help Lucy differentiate herself from other candidates
Outcome: Lucy learned the importance of networking (she had a friend at the agency who helped her with interview questions, etc.) and preparing for each interview. Lucy landed a job with her first opportunity well ahead of winter break
