Success Story – Nate

I’m the co-founder of Career Track Coaching. I started a career coaching business and just completed my 8th year. My goal with my clients is the following: providing direction/clarity, motivation, accountability, mentoring, and being a resource for challenges during their career search. I primarily work with college students and young adults in their 20s and 30s.

Nate, a talented individual with ADHD, graduated from college in December 2023 and faced a challenging job environment. He was able to find a part-time job working 20 hours a week as a warehouse associate. His challenge was figuring out the best way to get started because of his lack of confidence in networking, knowing where and how to apply, and preparing for interviews through role-playing.

I worked with Nate on several key areas to support his career development:

  • We established weekly meetings with clear goals and due dates, gradually reintroducing structure into Nate’s life since he left school. It was difficult to find a full-time job while holding a part-time job, as it required the energy and effort to land a new gig.
  • We recognized the importance of identifying his strengths to determine what he could successfully do and not do.
  • Together, we devised a plan to find a full-time job within 30 miles of his house, and I assisted Nate in identifying potential places of employment.
  • Nate learned how to apply online using Indeed, LinkedIn, and other sites.
  • We developed a networking template to help Nate outline best practices, including the ability to speak to an adult about his career and seek their advice.
  • After Nate received a few job interviews, I coached him through interview preparation, role-playing, and developing a solid interview template.
  • After one interview with a logistics company, Nate received a job offer that exceeded his expectations.
  • Nate and I reviewed the job offer and created questions for him to ask prior to accepting the new role. He was even able to negotiate for more money.

I will continue to work with Nate as an on-the-job coach to help him acclimate to his new opportunity.

This success story highlights the positive impact that targeted coaching can have on individuals with ADHD, opening doors to opportunities and fostering independence. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out.
