Now that you graduated, it’s time to put some serious focus on your job search. The good news is the job market is still very good. Here are some tips to help you accelerate your job search.
Use your college’s resources.
Just because you graduated, it doesn’t mean you still can’t use the career center or Handshake. Believe it or not, employers are already gearing up for the fall 2022 recruiting season.
Social media can be your friend.
LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor are great places to look for a job. These sights can actually help you learn more about the company, and even know in advance of your interview what questions will be asked.
One other important tip is to make sure your social media presence (this includes Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, etc.) represents the best version of yourself.
Ask for advice only.
Alumni or current employees at a company can be a great help in getting you in the door. Use LinkedIn to take advantage of this. Don’t ask for something right away. Show interest in the person, as for advice. Don’t start with asking for a job, it is not genuine. You can go back later once you have expressed your interest in developing a relationship.
Build relationships.
Personalize your messages when you are networking. Find something in common to make a bond (i.e., alumni, sorority/fraternity mates, clubs, etc.) mention who or what you have in common. Make sure you use these relationships to help others. Pay it forward and no good deed will go unturned.
Know what you have to offer.
You need to know what value you have and how you can articulate it to the company. Don’t treat every message, communication, or interview the same. Tailor it to the person you are reaching out to, and the job.
